Meet the Mill — Brisbane Moss
A lot of the time we like the clothes that we wear, but know very little about where, or even how they are made. At Bhode, we want to change this, and shine a light on the heritage and importance of these beautiful industries that really are the core of all of the things that we adore.
Brisbane Moss can be found in the heart of the Calder Valley, in West Yorkshire. Almost 140 years on after its beginning, it still remains as the largest stock-house of moleskins and corduroys in Great Britain.
During the 19th century, as a reaction to larger companies moving into the area and taking over all the local dyeing firms, several local companies including the largest dyers in the area, Moss Bros.Ltd. banded together as a counter to the worry of a monopoly in the industry. Together they all formed The English Fustian Manufacturing Company Ltd. on the 13th of February, 1901, which through multiple changes, later became what is known today as Brisbane Moss.
The Moss Brothers had been working as weavers of corduroy and moleskin fabric since the middle of the 19th century, and through their continued work within the industry had managed to establish Brisbane Moss as a truly great piece of British heritage, who continue to offer unparalleled excellence in the manufacture of corduroy and moleskin. The quality of their weaving, dyeing and finishing creates fabrics so fine that they are selected by the world’s leading garment makers.
At Bhode, we strive to focus on the things that matter. Away from the disposable, in with the quality garments that last, and made by the people that matter.
These are the reasons why we chose to work with Brisbane Moss for our Corduroy Zip Jacket; to make a piece that you truly love, and one that will remain a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.
